You're not crazy and it has nothing to do with a screwed up brain. Back when I weighed over 280 lbs. I thought the exact same thing. Then I realized it's just a matter of learning some coping strategies. You never knew me before I married Joel but believe me, I was the size of a large sofa. Let me know if I can help, after I lost my job I decided to take the leap and I'm now doing Personal Training and Weight Loss Coaching.
Perhaps you are not eating enough during the day; meaning 4 or 5 small portions as opposed to one or two large ones might help deter the binging. Having unsalted mixed nuts at you desk at work might also help, lotts of protein and good fat!
